Species

Humans (-mar & -marl) tend to be balanced characters more than the other two. There is no regeneration bonus on them, but are still good characters all around. They may be able to use different techniques depending on class.

Newmen (-newm & -newearl) have less of a focus on the physical side of battle, and instead have increased mental capabilities. Along these lines, they have the ability to regenerate Technique Points when standing still. The rate of regeneration changes with level. They can use all techniques.

Humanoids or Androids (-cast & -caseal) androids are the battle side of the species. They tote more physical prowess to make up for their inability to use magic. They regenerate HP while standing still. Instead of techniques, they use traps. Types of traps and number available varies depending on level.

Gender

Male (-mar, -newm, & -cast)

Female (-marl, -newearl, & -caseal)

Gender is not a factor in characters.

Class

Hunters (HU-) are the close ranged experts. They are proficient with blade weapons (indicated by the sword symbol) and can use all of them (with exceptions due to legendary weapons requiring MST to wield). They tend to have higher attack and evasion due to their proximity in battle.

Rangers (RA-) this class is good for beginners due to the fact that they are away from the battle. They may use all ranged weapons (the pistol icon) and act as excellent support for Hunters. They tend to have high defense and high attack.

Forces (FO-) are the magic folk. They are very difficult to use due to their physical weakness, but their far superior mental strength makes them an undeniable force at greater levels. They can use all techniques, and have the exclusive right to cane weaponry (indicated by the cane icon). The only stat that seems to advance with any reasonably useful speed is their mental strength, which in the end is all they need. They cannot wear armor or shields.

Specific Classes

HUmar is the most well balanced character in the game. All of his stat potentials are relatively the same, although his attack and evasion are slightly higher. This is good for those who intend to be well rounded, also good for beginners. He can use some techniques.

HUnewearl has the least health potential in the Hunter class, but can access all techniques. She is not as well balanced as the HUmar, but she does do well in the realms of attack and evasion.

HUcast is the reigning PSO powerhouse. He not only has the highest attack potential in the game, but the highest health potential and the second highest evasion potential. An excellent choice for beginners, this is the very same class as Death Dark himself.

HUcaseal is a new addition to the Gamecube and Xbox, but is a welcomed one. She also has a very high health and attack potential, but she has the very highest evasion in the game and the highest accuracy in the Hunter class.

RAmar is the regulation style trooper. He is well balanced but with an obvious liking to accuracy and attack power, having the highest accuracy potential in the game. He can use some techniques.

RAmarl is another new character. She has the lowest HP in the ranger class, but has better mental abilities. She can use most, if not all, techniques.

RAcast is the powerhouse of the ranger class, because of his high attack. He also has an extremely high accuracy potential that is second only to RAmar. He is the ideal beginner's character, but is an excellent choice for anyone.

RAcaseal is a miniature version of the RAcast. She does not have as much attack or accuracy, but has the highest defense of the rangers.

FOmar is the last of the new guys. He is quite literally the hardest character to play as in the entire game. With no regeneration abilities, and a low attack and defense, this character is just waiting to be killed. His accuracy and evasion are above par for the Force class, though.

FOmarl is the most balanced of the Forces, and prefer support techniques. Her balance makes them a little easier to play as, but they don't regenerate.

FOnewm is the powerhouse of the Forces, but not in the attack power way. These guys are the way to go for powerful attacks that blow your opponent away. They have the second highest mental strength potential, but lack in most other places.

FOnewearl is the center of the Force class, with the highest mental strength potential and the most proficient in techniques as a whole (best all around, not in every way). Like the FOnewm, they don't have much else to them but their techniques, but again, it doesn't matter.
